Freedom Run 5K

I used to run races by myself, trying to set personal records. I ran with headphones plugged into my ears, oblivious to the people around me.

Lately, I have found more joy in running with others than running alone.

Last year on the 4th of July I ran the Fox Firecracker 5K with my dad. It was great to share in the achievement of my dad’s first ever 5K at the age of 70.

Today I got to share the Freedom Run 5K with Mary Ridgeway and her dad, Joaquin Chavez. The 82 year old Joaquin finished ahead of Mary and I as he took third place in his age group.

I also saw the enthusiasm and energy on the faces of Noah and Nathan as they ran the kids K.

The joy of running not only comes in individual pursuits, but also in the joy of running together.
